You are watching: Harrington and richardson 410 shotgun serial number

Hi all, nice site you have here. I recently bought a H&R 410 single shot from my wifes Father to keep it in the family, I"m not really a gun collector, so I thought I would come here for help, as I have found nothing online. The side of the gun has engravedHarrington and RichardsonWorechester, Mass USAPat. Feb 27, 1900The serial number on it is A106482.A friend of mine says the gun likely pre-dates the "Topper". Any Ideas? Thanks!Brent
the is a standard size frame model 1908, known after 1932 as as the model No.8. it does predate the topper models which were introduced in the early 1940,s. there are no factory serial number records for the pre WWII model but the standard size frame was not chambered for the 410 until 1924 with the barrel marked 410-12mm. the 410 only marking was not used until 1937.if marked 410-12mm manufactured 1924-1936 2 1/2 inch chambersif marked 410 only manufactured 1937-1942 3 inch chambersbecause it has the feb. 27, 1900 patent date markings i would lean toward the early dates of 1924-1936.bill

Thanks so much for your help Bill!Any idea of what a gun like this is worth? As I"m not a gun collector I don"t know how to rate it. The stock is in perfect shape, and I can see 2 "raw" spots on the barrel, my guess is from storage. There is a minor amount of rust on the barrel in spots also. One again, thanks alot!Brent
without the gun in my hands all i can give you is a range. a model 1908/no.8 in 410 would be between 100%=$195 and 60%=$55. true evaluations can only be given with a in hand inspection.bill

bill,im new to this site and i have a H&R .410 3" full choke the store i bought it from said it could shoot 2 1/2 and 3" shells i was wondeing what loads it takes because i cant find any info about the shell size or nothin and this is my first time ever having or knowing anything about it please help!
H&R offered their first 3 inch chamber on the 410 in 1937. if your"s is in good shooting condition you should not have any problem shoot any 410 cartridge that is available today including slugs. to the best of my knowledge the only 410 shells available today are 2 1/2 and 3inch. there was a much earlier 410 2 inch shell but this has been obselete since about 1921.when hunting the 3 inch shell would be best. there is a 2 1/2 inch shell i like to keep in my short barrel 410. it is a loaded with number 4 size shot this is one of my upstairs guns (three bedrooms three guns) and my downstairs gun is a short barrel 20 gauge pump also loaded with number 4 shot.bill
