You are watching: 2005 chrysler town and country towing capacity

I have a 2005 Town & Country that does NOT have the tow package installed. I am trying to determine what the towing capacity of this vehicle would be. Looking to tow a 2,200 lb pop up camper. Cannot determine from the owners manual what the max limit would be here. Can anybody help with this? Thanks!

You should be more than fine with 2200lbs. Just add a good transmission cooler and get a class3 hitch.
Candy the van. "98 Sport 3.8L 132,200 miles. Used trans at ~96k. Great piece of my life and a fine van."69 GTO drop top
If I remember correctly from my owners manual a 02 TC with 3.8 and towing kit could tow 2800 max. That seems low IMO. The towing kit is only a trans cooler, lights, and hitch and maybe a bigger rad but I don"t think so. So I would think you should be fine with 2200 pounds. Just get a big trans cooler and use 3 instead of D when going up hills or mountains.

If you don"t have the towing package, 1,800 pounds is what you can legally tow. That"s total trailer weight, and assuming no passengers in your van.If you DO have the towing package, 3,800 pounds is what you can legally tow. Same restrictions as above...passengers or cargo in your van reduce the legal towing limit. Here"s the easy way to estimate what you can tow: look at the tire safety placard on your driver side door jamb. It"ll list a GVWR or similar. It"ll be something like 5,700 pounds for a non-towing van and something like 7,700 pounds for a van with the tow package. That"s the TOTAL allowable weight for your rig, including the van AND the trailer, and fuel, cargo, groceries, bikes, luggage, etc.Estimate that your van weighs 3,900 pounds when loaded with fuel and two people. Add 1,800 pounds to that and that"s your 5,700 pound limit. If you have a family of four, with a cargo carrier on top and the dog in the back of the van, and your van really weighs about 4,500 pounds rolling down the road, all you can legally tow is 5,700-4,500=1,200 pounds.
