You are watching: 2001 ford focus cranks but wont start

Hello everyone! I"ve got a 2001 Focus Wagon and I am at a loss. The starter cranks really well, but the engine won"t fire. This is what I"ve tried so far.Opened oil cap and watched the cam spin while cranking (ruled out Timing belt)Banged on gas tank with a wrench and then attempted to start (ghetto fuel pump check)Took the little tab off the passenger side kick panel and checked the inertia cut off, that button still seemed depressed, and that didn"t work either. The car does have fuel. It died mid-driving, that"s another reason I don"t suspect the fuel pump. Looking for any and all ideas! Thanks gang!

Coil pack?Fuel pump? Not positive you can rule out Timing belt. Could be spinning, but jumped some teeth?

2001 has a fuel delivery recall on the fuel pump..banging on the tank wont really help as the actual pump is suspended on springs to check if you have fuel pressure grab a empty can or jar pop off the fuel line to the rail and stick it in the bottle then turn the key a few times and see if there is fuel in the can/jar as for it dieing while in mid drive it is possible it failed during your driving as it may of seized.if it was your timing you will still get backfires or do what it did on mine which was blow off your intake tube..coil pack can also be suspect as mine just up and died but mine died sitting overnight. its easy to see if the coilpack is had its days just look at it and its sides if you see rust buildup, corrosion, cracks that wont just easily rub away it means moisture ingress is seeping through and/or cracked the housing.. a common issue
